I want to show what it means to be a storm chaser and how it’s important for us to live it out on a daily basis. Psalm 57:1, “Be merciful and gracious to me, O God, for my soul takes refuge and finds shelter and confidence in You.” Now, you’ve got to listen to this with a little bit of an ear towards 2019, and all that’s about to happen.  It goes on to say, “Yes, in the shadow of Your wings will I take refuge and be confident until calamities and destructive storms are passed.”

I take refuge and I’ll be confident until calamities and destructive storms are passed. Boy, is that important! I’ve been in storms and hurricanes. I remember as a little boy seeing my neighbor holding onto a tree and he was straight out like a flag during Hurricane Hazel. My sister and I were laughing because we thought it was funny, but it wasn’t funny. He was holding on for dear life. There’s a place you want to be in a storm, a place of refuge.  And you are there until the storm passes. There’s nothing like it!  You want to be in the right place in a storm.

There’s an element in the storm that I want you to look at. It’s the clouds. Clouds are present in a storm. Psalm 97:2, “Clouds and darkness are round about Him; righteousness and judgment are the habitations of his throne.” Wait a minute! You mean clouds and darkness are where you’ll find God? Oh yeah! In Exodus 33:9, the children of Israel were led by a pillar and a cloud. The same pillar rested at the entrance of the tent of meeting.  Each time Moses went to enter there was a cloud called the Shekinah. Exodus 24:15, “And Moses went up unto the mountain and the cloud covered the mountain for six days, and God called to Moses out of the mountain.”

You mean God was in the storm? God was in the cloud? Yes! And, the Bible says that Moses joined God in the cloud for 40 days and 40 nights! That Moses is my kind of guy! I believe that Moses might have been the first original storm chaser!
